The Splints of Felled Woods

Nemish Art, Project

Project consists of:
75 boxes with splints

Medium:
• plastic;
• wooden splints.

THE GIST OF THE PROJECT LAYS IN THE IDEA THAT EVERY ACTION HAS ITS INFLUENCE ON FUTURE AND THAT EVERY EVEN SMALL ACTION POINTS AT THE PROCESS ITSELF.
Conan Doyle by the help of his detective story’s hero Shelock Holmes stated that every logically thinking human based on the drop of water could assume existence of Black Sea or Niagara Fall in spite of the fact that one could not have seen one or another before in one’s life.
The point is that any action has results in the future, any small part of a process is evidence of itself.
This project uses not just images of wood chips, as an integral attribute of the process of felling, deforestation and they are not the main thing here but intends to create certain semiotic sign vehicles. In this project, the images of chips are built as signs, pointing to the forest as something that was someday big, strong, joyful, happy, alive … and became dead.

Here most likely the whole nations or ethnic groups that suffered during the times of change (wars, genocides …) can be associated with the forest, where the least protected innocent people were the most affected. Splints are their crippled life and their terrible destiny…

The works are constructed by the means of black boxes and wooden splints.
